Mazda has claimed to be one of the most "LGBT friendly" companies.  So why is it that one of their top executives has recently publicly compared same-sex marriage with polygamy? James Jordan,Vice President of Mazda, has equated the right of gays and lesbians to marry to polygamists having as many wives as they wish.

We have seen these tactics before; opponents of gay marriage, like former Senator and GOP Presidential candidate Rick Santorum, have said that the legalization of same-sex marriage will lead to the legalization of polygamy and bestiality.
 
Why would Mazda expect gay and lesbian consumers to purchase their cars when a top executive has publicly smeared and degraded marriage rights by equating gay marriage with polygamy in an effort to defeat marriage equality efforts and shift the debate to irrelevant issues?

We in the LGBT community are not arguing that we should be allowed to marry multiple partners.  We are simply arguing for equality under the U.S. Constitution, which would provide the same rights and protections that are provided to opposite-sex couples.
 
Mazda Executive James Jordan has gone on the record to say: "They [Polygamy and Gay Marriage] are completely the same…If you can redefine marriage to be two men and two women, why not define it as PEOPLE who love each other without regard to the number?"

This type of an argument is a scare tactic and is an attempt to distract from the real inequality burdening the LGBT community.  These comments are bigoted, hateful and dangerous.
 
We cannot allow a major executive in one of the biggest auto-makers to spew such outrageous comments about our community.  Let’s take this fight in our own hands and demand that this rhetoric not be tolerated.
